Holiday Survival Guide

The holiday season is here! Don’t let the holidays make you feel crummy. You might have time off. You might be traveling. You may love this season, or you may dread it. Either way, here are some ways to help your body thrive during this time.⁣

This isn’t a holiday diet to follow.⁣ The holidays are stressful enough, don't add to them by stressing over your diet. You can drink the pumpkin beer. Or you can pass the glass of wine. You can stay up later than usual. Or you can excuse yourself earlier than others. You can eat the pecan pie. Or you can skip the desserts. You can skip your gym routine. Or you can go go to yoga class. You can support your body to best handle all of these things, no matter what the holidays bring you. ⁣

Check out these tips to help you feel your best through the holidays!

Vital B Vitamins

Sometimes our body just needs some extra support, especially in times of stress. Vital Bs is one of my daily essentials because our B vitamins are critical for our body to develop and function properly, and are depleted by stress. Hello, that’s me! It is also depleted by many medications like birth control. Taking a B complex will help you feel more energized and right off sugar cravings as well. Sunshine or D3/K2

Many of us do not get enough sunshine. If we work indoors all day, our vitamin D can get low. Sometimes our body just needs some extra support, especially in the fall and winter months. This is why I supplement with Empirica to optimize my health. D3+K2 Max has become one of my daily supps since I do not get sunshine every day. It is combined with K2 to work even better. Don’t forget, you must consume fat and cholesterol in your diet to absorb fat-soluble vitamins. Get your vitamin D level checked with your doctor to see if you should supplement too! Get outside

Whether you are a deer out of balance or just need a mood boost, GET OUTSIDE. Right now, if you can.

Let the sunlight hit your face and soak it in. Why this this important? LET ME TELL YOU!

1.     The sun boosts our vitamin D levels which improves immunity, mood, and bone health.
2.     Sun hitting our eyes increases the production of serotonin, our “good mood” neurotransmitter.
3.     Seeing sun, especially in the morning, helps your body produce more melatonin for a better night’s sleep.

Wait, but it’s not always sunny here? Studies have shown just being outside and seeing nature improves overall health, lowers anxiety and lowers blood pressure. The actual scent of flowers and trees will lower your cortisol and help you get into a relaxed state.

I know, I know, we all have a lot of other things to do besides frolic through a field all day. You can still be in DO mode and take it outdoors. In fact, I am sitting by a lake right now writing this.

So, head outside, even just for 10 minutes. Feel the ground beneath your bare feet. Find your daily movement with a walk or EMPACK workout. Rest and recharge with a journal or a good book. Have a picnic with friends or family for connection, or eat a peaceful undistracted meal by yourself.
Your heart and root chakra will be so thankful for this.

Hooked on Omega 3s

Sometimes we just can't get the nutrients we need from our food. This is why I supplement with Empirica to optimize my health. Omega 3 fatty acids are ESSENTIAL to consume, because our body cannot make them. I definitely don’t eat enough fatty fish, so I choose to supplement. Omega 3s are critical for your body to fight inflammation and to inflame during a healing process. They are heart healthy, brain healthy, skin healthy, joint healthy, etc. etc. It is also hard to find quality fish oil supplements that source good quality fish in sustainable practices and don’t allow them to go rancid in the production process.

*IF YOUR FISH OIL SMELLS/TASTE FISHY, THROW IT AWAY! IT IS RANCID*
